JCRB|AJC Executive Director Job Description

 
JCRB|AJC seeks a dynamic and astute professional with experience in community relations and advocacy, background in Israel-related issues, and a commitment to social justice to continue the work and mission of the Agency. The Executive Director will work with the Board of Directors and JCRB staff  to vision, plan and implement the goals and projects of JCRB|AJC. JCRB|AJC is an agency whose mission is to advocate and educate, on behalf of the Jewish community, to eliminate injustice and discrimination at home and abroad. We build bridges with other faith and minority groups, ethnic communities, government officials, law enforcement, educators, the media and the civic community.  The Executive Director must have excellent communications skills and an ability to build bridges across communities and work with a wide variety of constituents and community and business leaders.
 
Responsibilities
 
Lead all activities of the Agency and help direct the agenda and action plan to implement the Agency’s goals

Work collaboratively with members of the Board of Directors, business and community leaders (both within and outside of the Jewish community) to develop and execute strategy, and to build and nurture key relationships

Work collaboratively with AJC to advance its global advocacy agenda at the state and local level, and gain a thorough understanding of all AJC activities and resources.

Work collaboratively with the other organizations in the local and regional Jewish community, including the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City (JFED), and consult with the JFED Executive Director on JCRB|AJC community activities, as appropriate.

Plan the annual Henry W. Bloch Human Relations Award Dinner and engage in fundraising in connection therewith

Engage in or supervise grant writing and other general fundraising activities

Prepare action alerts, information pieces and position papers on legislative issues.

Assist officers, board members, and committee chairs in discharging their designated responsibilities in carrying out the goals and programs of JCRB|AJC.

Nurture interfaith and interethnic relationships within the community through collaborative initiatives with strategically selected partners

Monitor legislation, as it pertains to the JCRB|AJC agenda, on a local, state and national level, and work with elected officials across the political spectrum on issues that relate to the agency’s mission

Serve as the spokesperson and official representative of the agency to stakeholders within the Jewish community and the public at large

Resolve or mediate religious discrimination issues in schools or in workplaces, as requested.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree

At least 5 years of relevant experience including demonstrated success with:

  • Leading an organization, including budgetary oversight

  • Public policy development and advocacy

  • Fundraising

  • Event planning

  • Communications skills through both social media and face to face interaction

  • Media relations

The Executive Director must exhibit significant leadership skills including integrity, diplomacy, discretion, creativity, and vision.  He or she must have:

The ability to manage and motivate staff and volunteers to achieve the goals and promote the mission of JCRB|AJC

The ability to relate to people of different faiths, backgrounds, and philosophies

A strong commitment to civil rights, justice, and Israel

An understanding of Jewish community life

Knowledge of Jewish traditions, values, and history

The ability to multitask and manage time appropriately

The ability to develop on-going relationships with elected officials and their staffs
